If you’re looking for March vacation ideas then each Spring Washington D.C’s tidal basin is transformed by acres of pink and white cherry blossoms and is well worth a visit.
Thousands of tourists are drawn to the nation’s capital each year to witness the spectacle! Usually, the tree’s peak bloom is late March through early April but the unconventionally warm temperatures this year have experts anticipating an early bloom.
In order to avoid heavy crowds and maximize beautiful photo opportunities, it is wise to visit the Tidal Basin in the early morning and catch the sun rising over D.C’s iconic marbled monuments under blankets of fragrant petals.

The only way to travel to the island is via plane into Lihue Airport. Flying into this destination is possible on a direct flight from an array of locations across the USA and Canada, if you are travelling from a different country then a connecting flight will need to be taken.
After taking a beautiful flight over this gorgeous location and arriving safely, it is then possible to hire a car which you can further explore around the island in.
At present it is not possible to arrive via boat, but do not let that stop you from floating around the picturesque shorelines on one once you have reached your destination.

Treat yourself to a stay in an iconic wooden cabin on stilts in this beautiful State Park that stretches for 2,800-acres along the crystal shores of Lake Pontchartrain.

The park’s namesake is the canyon which plunges 150 ft at its deepest and is unusual as it is not completely natural but was partially formed by bad farming practice in the 1800s.

Being an inland city surrounded by major highways, driving in is also a good way to travel here if you have a car or have hired one. Depending on the direction you are coming from using routes I-85, I-75 or I-20 are the best ways to enter the Atlanta.
14. Saguaro National Park, Arizona – a wonderful warm springtime destination in March
Saguaro National Park is named for the iconic giant cactuses that have been known to grow up to 78ft tall, although the average height is about 40ft.
Walking amidst these giants, especially as the sun sinks below the horizon is an eerie and wonderful experience. For a great view of the Saugaruo Forest hike up to the Valley View Overlook which offers an amazing panoramic vista of the Cacti.
If you really want to get in amongst them, try the Mica View Loop which takes you right through the middle of these amazing plants.
In March you have the added bonus of all the beautiful wildflowers in bloom, splashing the desert landscape with color. You’ll also find ancient petroglyphs and an array of wildlife from bobcats to venomous Gila Monsters…I’d suggest giving both a respectably wide berth!
Remember the park covers almost 100,000 acres and is split in two by the city of Tucson, for the best cactus action head for the smaller western portion.

The most common way to travel to this National Park is by car, with no direct public transport options driving in from a different location or hiring a car from the airport is the best option.
There are two airports located near. Tucson International Airport is roughly a 30-minute driveaway from this location offering only 50 flights landing there per day from 20 destinations. Where as Phoenix International Airport can take up to a 2-hour journey to the park but offers around 1,200 flights per day to over 120 domestic locations and 20 international across 23 airlines.
15. Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park, Kansas – temperate geology without the crowds
The badlands are a vast acreage of ancient wilderness that will take you back to earlier times when the lands were occupied by the Oglala Sioux tribe.
The landscape is arid and strange with rare Niobrara Chalk outcrops rising up out of flat prairies like temples. The name ‘Little Jerusalem’ refers to a mile-long collection of these white rocks that rise in awe-inspiring 100 ft spires and cliffs, bringing to mind the ancient city.
In March the temperature is mild and humidity low so it’s a great time to hike one of the two permanent trails and treat yourself to the best views without navigating summer crowds.
Aside from Little Jerusalem, there’s been traces of life dating back as far as 85 million years found here, so look out for amazing fossils of ancient giant clams and oysters!

Once you have arrived at your destination there is a car park surrounded by high plains prairie. You will then need to hike around the area for the impressive views as they can’t be seen from the road.
16. San Diego, California – a warm early spring break with laid back beach vibes and wildflowers
San Diego is awesome for many reasons, it’s beautiful, laid back, rich in maritime history, and surrounded by gorgeous swathes of ocean and parkland!
In March you can catch some amazing festivals such as Paddy’s Day and The Annual San Diego Latino Film Festival as well as enjoy the many outdoor delights the city has to offer in the sunshine.
You’ll also get better rates on flights and accommodation by avoiding peak season. Temperatures average around 19 degrees around this time of year.
For totally chilled-out bohemian vibes I highly recommend Ocean Beach for cheap and delicious Mexican food, killer margaritas, and a real new wave ‘summer of love’/ surfy atmosphere.
Just out of the city nature lovers will delight at the carpets of wildflowers in Anza Borego Desert State Park or the flower fields at Carlsbad Ranch.
It is also the perfect time to catch the immense Gray Whales on their migration back north. These splendid animals are usually around 40-50 ft when fully grown and their gentle demeanor has earned them the accolade of World’s Friendliest Whale.
Take a little drive along the historic route 101 and see how many you can spot, or take an organized tour from the marina.

17. Arches National Park, Utah – March is a great time to visit or take a vacation in this unique natural beauty spot
With intolerable summer temperatures of up to 100 degrees The Arches National Park’s peak season is often unbearable for those not accustomed to the heat.
Add crowds to that and no matter how fabulous the landscape is it can be a miserable experience! It is wiser instead to head to the iconic park in early March when temperatures are far more pleasant and the crowds are yet to arrive (temperatures average around a very comfortable 16 degrees).
The Arches strange prehistoric landscape has become synonymous with Utah, and the instantly recognizable ‘Delicate Arch’ is now the symbol for the whole state.
With over 2000 of these otherworldly stone arches and relics of the nomadic Ute tribe, there is plenty to explore across the 119 sq miles of the reserve.
Most of the trails are short and accessible with the exception of The Devils Garden Primitive Trail, which requires a slightly more seasoned hiker.
For the ultimate Arches experience try and hit the park at sunset and see the whole thing cast in an ethereal orange glow, absolutely beautiful!

Salt Lake City International Airport is the closest international airport to Moab, though Moab does have its own regional airport and there are domestic flights arriving at other regional airports, or you can fly into Denver International Airport, so it depends what is more convenient for you.
There are bus services from Salt Lake City that will take you to Moab, and the Rocky Monuntaineer train line goes through Moab.
18. Palm Springs, California – for warm March vacation without the searing summer heat
If you fancy yourself a bit of a hipster you’d better get to Palm Springs, a cool and artsy city long favored by the Hollywood jet-set for its glamorous elegance, sunshine, and healing springs.
The city, which is nestled in the beautiful Coachella Valley between 4 mountain ranges is particularly notable for its many examples of mid-century modern architecture, swanky boutique shopping, and world-class art….and golf of course.
Whilst you’re there don’t miss the amazing Aerial Tramway for stunning views across the entire valley and perhaps a mountaintop lunch, or the amazing Sunnylands Public Gardens and Mansion.
Although much of the Mid Century Architecture belongs to private owners you can still take in some amazing examples by taking a tour through the Tennis Club and Araby Cove districts.
There are so many things to do but a visit to Palm Springs would not be complete without making the most of alfresco dining in the city’s beautiful restaurants…a little tip, go for ones that are tucked away off main tourist routes and you’ll get superior quality for a fraction of the price.

20. Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas – warm and mild, minimal rainfall and fewer crowds
A great location for hikers or adventure vacation in March in the USA, Palo Duro Canyon on the Texas Panhandle is the second largest Canyon in the USA and well worth a visit.
After seemingly endless flatlands the Earth simply sinks and you’ll find yourself gazing over this spectacular Canyon, which is a whopping 120 miles long and plunges more than 800ft at its deepest point.
The park’s most iconic rock formation is called the lighthouse and it rises out of the ground in 300 ft of splendid rust-colored rock…the hugely popular lighthouse trail is the best way to view it and also get amazing views out over the canyon.
It is also worth extending your stay to overnight in one of the camping or glamping sites as the night skies in this part of the world are truly phenomenal!
Look out for the unmistakable herds of protected Texas Longhorn cattle that roam freely across the land and adventure lovers might want to try the terrifying zip line that crosses the canyon between Dallas and New Mexico.
