How to get to Atlanta, Georgia

Atalanta is a very easily accessed city to get to. Being a hub of many attractions and activities it is a very popular location to travel to.

Many choose to fly into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is known for being one of the world’s busiest airports. Boasting to offer non-stop flights from over 150 domestic destinations and 70 international locations, it is sure to have a route which suits you.

Other public transport options include taking the Greyhound bus service which stops at the airport, bringing people from all over the country, as well as the AMTRAK train with the Atlanta stop being situated between Midtown and Buckhead.

Being an inland city surrounded by major highways, driving in is also a good way to travel here if you have a car or have hired one. Depending on the direction you are coming from using routes I-85, I-75 or I-20 are the best ways to enter the Atlanta.

18. New Orleans, Louisiana – for fun times and warm temperatures

The ever chirpy and easygoing city of New Orleans is where you can experience southern hospitality with fantastic live music & incredible food any time of the year.

Marking mild weather with many special events including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the city comes alive with visitors from all over the world during spring.

While the days get warmer with relatively less humidity, you can enjoy pleasant weather with average daily highs in the low 70s and mid-80s.

Explore the city or take a tour of the French Quarter’s beautiful homes, the comfortably cool climate makes it a great time to enjoy the Big Easy vacation.

How to get to New Orleans, Louisiana

The city is a melting pot of culture and has a conveniently located airport just 15 miles west in the town of Kenner.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) was recently renovated in 2019 and has flights arriving from most domestic airlines as well as some regional lines.

From the airport is it possible to rent a car or travel by shuttle bus to the French Quarter and the Central Business District which takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

19. Savannah, Georgia – for a charming May city break

Once you decide to venture south, Savannah makes an appealing trip with its beautiful architecture, flowering streets, and blooming azaleas.

Spring is when the weather is at its best, with smaller crowds, lower prices, and lively events. The best time to visit Savannah is from March to June and from mid-September to mid-November.

The subtropical climate of Savannah makes a pleasantly warm spring with average temperatures in peak 70s and 80s. Explore the city by foot or visit the nearby seafront town of Charleston to add to your trip with Savannah’s rich history.

How to get to Savannah

Arriving by plane is a great option when travelling into this picturesque city, with non-stop routes arriving from 37 different locations to the Savannah Hilton Head International Airport.

If you’re looking to arrive by car, coming in from the East Coast is made easy with Interstate 95 and from the West with Interstate 16. 

There are also options to get here on the Amtrak train or Greyhound bus service with their stations being situated in the center of Savannah.

20. Sanibel Island, Florida – for gorgeous island scenery and a hot weather vacation

One of the best island destinations for a vacation in May, this gorgeous island is located in southwest Florida along the Gulf of Mexico. Temperatures in May average around 32 degrees so it makes a wonderful hot May break in the USA.

It’s famous for its sunsets, lighthouse, luxurious resorts, and beautiful beaches filled with shells.

Head for Lighthouse Beach which has a fishing pier, The Causeway Beaches for water-sports, the striking 19th-century Sanibel Lighthouse, the charming boardwalk which winds itself through marshes, and J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge which covers about half of the island.

How to get to Sanibel Island

Southwest Florida International Airport is approximately a 40-minute drive from the island, hosting both non-stop domestic and international flights from an array of cities, it is the largest airport in the area. You can then hire a car from the airport to make the commute.

Start your getaway with a road trip to Sanibel Island, you will need to arrive via the Interstate 75 to Florida and then head towards Sanibel Island Causeway and Toll Plaza which takes you over to this stunning location.

21. Napa Valley, California – for very warm daytime temperatures and fewer crowds

Synonymous with countless wineries, rich history, and a cultural scene, Napa Valley serves as a quaint getaway with a Mediterranean climate.

A rejuvenating time of the year, the season of spring brings along vibrant green hillsides, mild temperatures, and adorning wildflowers.

As the days get longer and the average highs tend to range in the mid-60s to 70s, the warm climate makes for an ideal wine tasting outdoors. Savor the sights of Napa, admire the extensive arts at Hall St. Helena, or treat yourself to a relaxing spa with decent hotel rates and lower crowds.

• Stop by a farmers market to buy local produced fruits, vegetables and view cooking demonstrations being held.
• Take a ride on the 25-mile long wine train where you can enjoy excellent service and mouth watering food.
• Go on the Napa Art Walk showcasing a range of wonderful and unique pieces created by several artists.

How to get to Napa Valley

The closest and most convenient airport is located 1-hour away in Santa Rosa, Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport. With several airlines boasting non-stop flights from cities across the US, it is accessible for many people to travel via. The fastest way to get from here to Napa Valley is to drive, with a car rental service located at the airport.

A scenic way to travel is with the San Francisco Bay Ferry arriving in Vallejo Transit Center with a connecting bus service, VINE Transit.

Amtrak offer a service via the San Joaquins train stopping in Martinez station where you can then take the Amtrak Thruway Bus Route 7 to arrive at your destination.

22. Ocracoke, North Carolina – one of the best places to vacation in May filled with tranquil and beautiful island scenery 

Looking for relaxing and warm May vacation ideas? This is a lovely unspoilt destination and a great choice for a beautiful and tranquil May break. Ocracoke is a village on the charming Ocracoke Island which is part of North Carolina’s coastal Outer Banks region.

The scenery is quaint and picturesque and highlights include the historic Ocracoke Lighthouse which dates from 1823, the Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum which is set in an early 1900s house, pretty Silver Lake filled with bobbing boats, a harbor lined with shops and restaurants, and 16 miles of pristine beaches.

May is also quite a warm month to visit and temperatures average 24 degrees during this spring month.

• Go paddle boarding on the calm waters of Silver Lake Harbor.
• Take a trip to see the oldest and smallest lighthouse of outer banks, Ocracoke Island Lighthouse.
• Grab a cocktail whilst enjoying a gorgeous sunset at one of the bars located along the waterfront.

How to get to Ocracoke

The only way to get to this location is via boat. A free service can be accessed with Hatteras Ferry located off Highway 12, where as the other two services are tolled but may suit your departure destination better, The Swan Quarter Ferry for those arriving from the west and Cedar Island Ferry for those arriving from the south.

23. Sedona, Arizona – for a fantastic outdoor May getaway

Arizona’s scenic respite set against the backdrop of soaring red canyons, pine forests, towering rocks and desert, Sedona is a haven for outdoor sports enthusiasts.

While summer in Sedona can be a scorcher, spring and fall offer the best weather with lower lodging rates and happening events.

With an average temperature ranging from the mid-60s to the low 80s, March through May offers refreshingly chilly weather for indulging in outdoor activities like hiking, jeep tours, and shopping in Uptown Sedona.

Relish the desert flora in Sedona with colorful blossoms and mesmerizing sunsets.

• Enjoy a gorgeous sunrise whilst floating through the sky on a hot air balloon ride overlooking the Red Rocks.
• Stroll through Uptown Sedona to explore around the shopping boutiques and restaurants.

We would suggest flying into Phoenix International Airport, from where you can hire a car and drive the roughly 100 miles to Sedona, or take the dedicated shuttle bus service operated by Amtrak.

 If flying domestically, you can fly into Flagstaff or Prescott airports, each around an hour away, and drive or take local transport links. 

24. Miami, Florida – famous for offering the best spring breaks in the USA with live music, gorgeous beaches, and warm weather

An epic beach city with a sun-blessed coastline, sprawling downtown, live music scene, and wonderfully warm weather, Miami is the epitome of “Sunny Florida”.

With relatively warm temperatures and lesser rains, March to May is the best time to plan for a low-key and soothing getaway to Miami and South Florida.

While visitors can expect optimal temperatures in the 70s and mid 80’s during the dry season, a spring visit allows you to escape the peak winter rates.

Find one of the many amazing hotels in Miami, take a cool dip in the South beach, indulge in water sports, or get tanned while lounging on the wide beaches, the city offers a fine blend of history and arts.

How to get to Miami, Florida

Miami is one of the most popular and frequently visited cities in America, meaning that there are myriad ways to make your way to this one-of-a-kind hub of music, art, food, nightlife and culture.

Fly directly into Miami International Airport (MIA) from cities and countries all over the world, and then either take a cab, shared shuttle, or bus right into the heart of downtown.

Car rental is also of course available from the airport and in the city itself too, which is a great option if you’re looking to branch out from Miami and explore other nearby towns and highlights such as Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, and the world-famous everglades.

25. Arches National Park, Utah – incredible sights, expansive desert valleys and wide blue skies

America’s most diverse National Park, the Arches National Park holds unique sandstone arches, incredible sights, expansive desert valleys, wide blue skies, and much more.

One of my favorite times to be in the park in early spring. With sunny skies, comfortable weather, and gorgeous sunsets, the park has many family-friendly attractions for a fun adventure.

The daytime temperatures range from about 60-80 degrees, making it a perfect time to hike the longer trails of the park.

Hit on America’s National Parks Week, admire the scenery or take a scenic drive, the red rock state has some awe-inspiring vistas.

• Embark up the 19-mile long road along the Arches Scenic Drive and stop to admire several of the many scenic sights.

• If you’re looking to learn more about the park, take part in a free Ranger-Led program.

How to get to Arches National Park

Salt Lake City International Airport is the closest international airport to Moab, though Moab does have its own regional airport and there are domestic flights arriving at other regional airports, or you can fly into Denver International Airport, so it depends what is more convenient for you.

There are bus services from Salt Lake City that will take you to Moab, and the Rocky Monuntaineer train line goes through Moab.
