Top 20 Cool and Unusual Hotels in Valencia 2023

Spain’s thriving cultural hub of Valencia is an extraordinary showcase of medieval architecture, avant-garde design, colourful festivals, and a vibrant night scene. Known worldwide as the birthplace of Paella, Valencia blends a sense of urban savvy with a laid-back Mediterranean vibe, and its eclectic cityscape abounds with art, music, and local charm.

As I was strolling through Valencia’s cobbled, maze-like streets, I was greeted by friendly locals, gorgeous independent boutiques and a striking collection of gorgeous design hotels just waiting to be stayed in! From trendy modern boutiques to chic palatial mansions, here are my favourite cool and unusual hotels in Valencia, Spain (in no particular order)

The timeless façade welcomes you into a completely refurbished building, which boasts contemporary interior aesthetics and quirky décor. The guestrooms are adorned with smooth lines and neutral tones which set a lavish tone, with tiled walls behind the bed reminding us of the hotel’s classy character.

Our room came with a flat-screen satellite TV and a kitchenette, providing us with our homely comforts. A standout feature is the terrace, which offers tables and chairs perfectly positioned for tanning.

Set within a grand nobleman’s mansion, this chic boutique hotel is a true reflection of Valencia’s heritage and charm. The large arched doorways and original marble staircase exude elegance, while the essence of nature radiates through the scented flower-filled garden and the soothing spa area.

You can treat the senses in the indoor whirlpool tub, the Turkish bath, or the sauna, after a day spent exploring the surrounding downtown cityscape.

Warm colours fill the 66 spacious rooms with a tranquil ambiance, and you can customize your sleep with a bespoke pillow menu. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening in the on-site restaurant, which invites you to indulge in the flavours of Valencia with an avant-garde twist.

Specifically designed to optimize comfort, Pamphylia Hotel reflects the history and naturalness of the Mediterranean. The décor in the guestrooms blends tradition and modernity, while a vivid colour scheme and exceptional garden or sea views set a vibrant backdrop.

The restaurant and bar offers a fresh, unique design, and much like the communal spaces, boasts beautiful Malvarossa beach views. Here you can treat your taste buds to internationally inspired cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Additionally, I thought the hotel’s location was perfect.

It is situated right by the sea, yet only 10 minutes by car from Valencia’s eclectic centre, offering the best of both worlds.

6. Catalonia Excelsior – a cool, hip and minimalist upscale hotel located in Valencia’s old town which welcomes pets too

Here we have an emblematic building dating from the mid-20th century, which has evolved into a glorious boutique hotel. A comprehensive renovation has seen this historic masterpiece embellished with a charming, fresh look, where luxury fitted furniture and trendsetting facilities blur the lines between tradition and modernity.

The on-site Espolin Restaurant combines the best culinary offerings of the region with an innovative kitchen concept. Here, elegance and avant-garde come together to offer you a memorable gastronomic experience.

Another option, which I opted for some nights, is to choose from a selection of nearby restaurants, and the staff will deliver your meal right to your door.

7. Mythic Valencia – an ultra-creative, arty and popular boutique hotel close to great attractions

The 24 rooms at Mythic Valencia are located inside a renovated industrial warehouse, with the city’s vibrant centre at your fingertips.

Each room is unique, and is decorated to maintain the industrial aesthetics of the establishment. A passion for urban art is deeply embedded into the accommodation concept here, and guests embark on an incredible journey of creativity from the moment they enter.

Whether heading through the colourful corridors, taking a rest our room, or socializing in one of the communal spaces, we felt we were always greeted by a charming visual aesthetic. Right across the bridge is the Carmen neighbourhood, one of the city’s most electric nightlife hubs.

Housed in the grand former palace of the Marqués de Caro, this monumental hotel boasts an eclectic design which gives each room its own story.

Old Roman and Moorish remains are revealed here, with a tinge of chic sophistication, making the hotel appear like an elegant film set. Wooden beams create little nooks in the design-driven rooms, which carry an intriguing set of names from ‘The Cat’s Room’ to ‘The Gothic Tower’.

The outdoor splash pool was my favourite hangout spot. It is surrounded by decking and a low lighting system, offering an idyllic place to kick back and unwind after a day of exploration.

The hotel is housed in an opulent stone building, and stunning pillars separate the eye-catching reception from the lounge and bar area. One of the most striking features is the lighting system, featuring audacious chandeliers and elegant drop-down lights which illuminate the subtle grey, green, and brown palette.

Bar Mikalet, the inviting lobby bar, boasts large rustic tables designed for larger gatherings, dotted by comfortable seating. Meanwhile, the on-site Almudi restaurant is a hot spot for Mediterranean cuisine.

Decorated by the prestigious interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, Only YOU Valencia was created to remind us to cherish those special moments we make when travelling.

An ambient lit façade invites you into an elegant lobby area, where a sharp, Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic brings fresh, luxurious materials into the spotlight. The lobby houses the Salvaje Restaurant, one of my favourite Valencian eateries. Salvaje showcases casual fusion cuisine topped by a lively atmosphere and has its own inhouse DJ.

The guestrooms boast velvet rugs, cream-coloured sofas, and lavish marble-clad bathrooms, and the beds are backdropped by the pulsating city which beams through the expansive windows.

11. Blanq Carmen Hotel – a unique quirky-chic boutique hotel perfect for design-loving Millenials and Gen Zs

Situated a stone’s throw from the cultural attractions of the city, Blanq Carmen Hotel stands in a grand, stately building. Having preserved its original façade, the property fits elegantly into its surroundings, with the Serranos Towers only 30 yards away.

I immediately felt a classy vibe once I entered the plant-filled lobby. Here, the modern, hip interiors have been cleverly designed with neutral hues and lots of wood to create a soothing ambiance.

A seasonal rooftop terrace with a plunge pool offers a charming space to kick back and delight in scintillating city views, with a handful of swinging chairs and comfy furniture allowing for moments of bliss.

12. One Shot Palacio Reina Victoria 04 – a chic and very Mediterranean boutique hotel with easy access to the main attractions in the city

One Shot Palacio Reina Victoria 04 - a very Mediterranean boutique hotel One Shot Palacio Reina Victoria 04 - a very Mediterranean boutique hotel1 One Shot Palacio Reina Victoria 04 - a very Mediterranean boutique hotel2

An eclectic mix of historic and ultra-modern, this lavish boutique reflects the vibrant cultural landscape of Valencia. A distinctive feel is evoked upon entrance by the quirky works of art, which include two mannequins sitting in chairs halfway up the wall.

Whether you relish epic street views from the restaurant or socialize at the bar, the pervading artsy vibe sets an informal and quaint atmosphere. A monochrome chequered look is a constant theme throughout the hotel, and the bathrooms give a 3D impression through unique black-and-white flooring.

This blissfully contrasts the in-room aesthetic, which is dressed in neutral, restful colours along with dark wooden features, and accompanies all the mod-cons of a big-name chain.

13. SH Ingles Boutique Hotel – a quirky-chic boutique hotel surrounded by high-end shopping stores and major shops

At SH Ingles, you will understand what it’s like to live in a historic palace. Not only do many of the rooms overlook the Baroque style ‘Museo Nacional de Cerámica’, but the hotel’s interior has also been designed in the same vein.

A striking façade, large windows, and traditional furniture emanate bygone-era splendour, further perpetuated by the flower-patterned stair carpets and Roman columns. Many locals head to the hotel’s Clandestino bar to sample premium brands, before taking a seat on a long sofa at ‘Le Marquis’ restaurant.

In my opinion it’s worth asking for a room with museum views, however each unit invites you to a totally relaxing retreat amid plush linens and homely comforts.

14. MD Design Hotel – Portal del Real – a cool, trendy and minimalist hotel located in the beautiful historic centre of Valencia

MD Design Hotel - Portal del Real

I thought MD Design Hotel embodied the history and art of Valencia perfectly. Its many balconies and terraces offer views of the city’s many roofs and gardens, setting an iridescent urban backdrop.

Discreet, modern décor suffuses the interiors, while woods, leather, stones, and natural textiles are used to set a peaceful tone. Housed in a 20th-century bourgeois building, each room has maintained a historic touch, but due to a head-to-toe revamp, also features many up-to-date amenities.

The terrace-solarium is a charming hangout spot, where we indulged in a few crafted cocktails as we relished old-town views.

15. The Little Corner B&B – a cute, creative hip bed and breakfast that offers a distinctive and unforgettable experience

The Little Corner B&B - a cool and swanky bed and breakfast The Little Corner B&B - a cool and swanky bed and breakfast1 The Little Corner B&B - a cool and swanky bed and breakfast2

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this graceful urban retreat, set just 900 yards from Jardines de Monforte. The property is dressed in a bohemian flair, with patterned rugs, stripy walls, and comfy leather sofas adding a touch of tradition.

Otherwise, the interiors are kept smooth and contemporary, through fresh décor and glass furnishings. The guestrooms are minimalistic and functional and offered us a chance to gaze over the vibrant cityscape from our bed.

Each room is equipped with a flat-screen TV, and circular mirrors are placed beautifully above the comfy headboards. Each morning you can head to the funky dining space to savour a delicious, continental breakfast spread.

16. Hotel Plaza Mercado & Spa – a cool, chic relaxed all-suite boutique hotel with hip contemporary  interiors

Hotel Plaza Mercado & Spa - an unpretentious all-suite hotel Hotel Plaza Mercado & Spa - an unpretentious all-suite hotel1 Hotel Plaza Mercado & Spa - an unpretentious all-suite hotel2

This 4-star downtown bolthole puts you within arm’s reach of the central market. Each of the 25 suites boasts a private kitchen, fully stocked with high-end utensils.

The hotel oozes comfort and sophistication in its well-appointed communal areas, which are both spacious and elegant. I would truly recommend the on-site SPA, which is the only one in Central Valencia. It offers luxury services through the incorporation of traditional rituals and holistic treatments.

Here, you can rejuvenate mind and body in the hot tub, where a low-lit ambiance sets a soul-soothing tone. Also at your disposal is a restaurant which combines the best of Spanish cuisine with an international flair.

17. ABCyou Bed&Breakfast – a cute, cool and quirky-chic boutique B&B to stay in Valencia which is a perfect base for Millennials and Gen Zs

Situated in the beating heart of Valencia, ABC you Bed & Breakfast offers the perfect base to explore the city’s eclectic streets. Housed in a beautiful Valencian building dating back to 1920, the interiors reflect a blissful blend of trendy accents and traditional elements.

In our cosy double room, having lots of natural light beam through the windows made for a pleasant and positive start to each day. Each room in the hotel is unique –  two are next to the garden and boast a private living room, while the ones facing the street offer a charming balcony.

Each morning you can savour a delicious continental breakfast, before taking advantage of the B&B’s bike rental scheme and heading out into the beautiful neighbourhood.
